ceph 20.2.0 (tentacle) released

Ceph 20 is out - and you should get your hands on it!

Wow - finally Ceph 20 (tentacle) is here. And it's a blast.

Two main features we have been waiting for:

fast-ec has arrived

Tentacle brings fast-ec, which is a huge improvement. You can achieve much higher gains from raw storage while having much less penalty on performance than before. Actually, depending on the workload you can achieve even higher performance than on three-way-replica.

bluestore improvements

Bluestore also has received improvements - depending on your configuration you benefit from improved compression and in general from a faster WAL.

rook update already released

If you're running ceph within kubernetes, you are probably using rook ceph - if you want to use tentacle without unsupported flag, update at least to version v1.18.8 - then you're settled.

Long road to crimson and seastore

In case you're waiting for crimson (and seastore) to be available for production you might be disappointed - both features are not yet there. Following the paradigm of releasing stable features, I agree that an entirely new OSD needs time during development and time during testing. If you're interested in latest crimson status, check out the dedicated news page on ceph.io: https://ceph.io/en/news/crimson/
